Fall is Here!

Fall is one of my favorite seasons for multiple reasons.... One reason is that the scorching hot season of summer is finally coming to an end and my favorite season and past time is rapidly approaching. This means more hot cocoa, layers and long sleeves, yoga pants, boots, holiday Starbucks drinks and of course the coming season of snow!

This also means I start baking and making comfort foods way more often. Even though the calorie intake goes up, this is the time where my preseason workout routine really kicks in. I add in more weights and reps to my weight training and lengthen my workouts and cardio to build up my endurance. Nothing is worse than getting onto the hill and realizing you should have focused more on leg day so that you can ride all weekend and keep up with the guys!

Being that women aren't as muscular naturally, we need to work a little harder in prepping for the season to make sure we can keep up all season long (and blaze past the guys who werent properly prepared for the first day on the slopes).

This means more miles, more weight, and more yoga!

This also means there are lots of preseason events in the works at my favorite local mountains!

The annual Crafts and Cranks event at Bear Mountain will be taking place this Saturday and is a great way to try the local craft beers and watch some more competition of the mountain bikers trying to win big money! This is sure to be a fun in the sun day with beer tasting, commemorative pint glass and some healthy competition to enjoy.

At the very same time in Mammoth you can also attend another craft brew event @ June Lake's Autumn Beer Festival! There will be all you can drink passes sold as well as another great competition.

These events only mean one thing... We are weeks away from opening day at both resorts. The countdown to snowfall begins! I will begin my rain dances shortly - remember, when it rains in LA, we get snow in our mountains! So, stop complaining and pray for rain!

Rant on Empowering Women

Call me crazy, but I believe women should be empowered and lifted up more often. We need to support other women daily and encourage the growth we see within them, no matter how small. A little compliment and reassurance goes a long way. I am so tired of seeing women tear each other down with slander and gossip, although I know I myself am not completely innocent 100% of the time.  I believe we as women, have it hard enough with societal pressures, media imposed standards of beauty and unreal ideals that surround us daily. I know that the women in my life all work very hard to be the best version of their selves and deserve to be told regularly that their strength, beauty, commitment and determination is admirable – because it is.
Paper thin model sizes perpetuate the pressures many women feel to fit into the media's standard of beauty
Societal pressures plague more American women every year fearing they are not thin enough

If only every woman in the world could make a consistent effort to bring up their fellow woman rather   than tear them down, I believe that the individual growth of many women would soar. Of course, we live in the real world and things will continue the way they currently are. Women will continue to badmouth, gossip and make snide comments about one another… wouldn’t it be great if future generations didn’t have to experience that woman on woman aggression? Wouldn’t it be great to feel as if you could trust other women more readily and not live in fear that they will stab you in the back the first chance they get?

Together we can create change
